The Government Analytical Laboratory-GAL is still in the process of conducting DNA tests to determine the paternity of a four-month-old baby who was allegedly detained at Roswell Women and Children’s Hospital due to unpaid medical bills, the High Court heard on Tuesday.

Last week, the baby was brought to court in accordance with a directive from Civil Division Judge Esta Nambayo. During the proceedings, the mother, Salome Aturinde, along with her husband Brigders Rogers Mugenyi, became emotional. Aturinde expressed her difficulty in recollecting whether the presented baby was indeed the one she had given birth to.

The separation of the baby from her immediately after birth, owing to outstanding medical fees, had created confusion. Consequently, the Court directed Roswell Hospital to cover the expenses for DNA testing to establish the baby’s paternity.
