Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere, the Rukiga District LC V Chairperson, has emerged victorious after the High Court sitting in Kabale dismissed a case in which he was accused of illegally sacking his deputy, Samuel Niwandinda.
Kakwerere sacked Niwandinda in February 2025, citing insubordination. The dismissal followed Niwandinda’s declaration of interest to contest against Kakwerere in the upcoming National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries. While Niwandinda has already picked nomination forms, Kakwerere is yet to do so.
Niwandinda, who also served as the Secretary for Finance, Planning, and Administration on the district council, held a press conference accusing Kakwerere of stifling transparency and efforts to keep the public informed about the district’s performance. Kakwerere, on the other hand, accused him of breaking the oath of allegiance and promptly replaced him with Jacqueline Nkamushaba, a female councillor representing Muhanga Town Council.
During a court session on Wednesday, lawyers Patience Nasiima (for Niwandinda) and Godwin Kumwesiga (for Kakwerere) informed the court that their clients had reached a mutual agreement to settle the matter amicably. Justice Karoli Lwanga Ssemogerere dismissed the case without awarding costs and welcomed the peaceful resolution.
Speaking to our reporter after the session, Kakwerere said there was no need to continue with unnecessary political feuds.
