Sheikh Dr. Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has been re-elected as the Mufti of Uganda, following the expiration of his previous tenure upon turning 70. The decision was made by the Majlis Al-Ulama (College of Sheikhs) and approved by the Joint Session of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).

Prof. Dr. Muhammadi Lubega Kisambira, National Chairperson of UMSC, explained that after consulting with legal experts, it was confirmed that there was no constitutional contradiction in considering Mubaje for a new term. “The selection of Sheikh Dr. Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje and Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa as the First Deputy Mufti is in line with the new constitution, which allows a 10-year term for the Mufti with no eligibility for re-election,” he said.

Prof. Kisambira also addressed a lawsuit challenging the swearing-in of the new Mufti, stating, “Both applications seeking to prevent the swearing-in were denied by the court, and we are free to continue our operations.” He concluded by praying for the success of the new leadership and wishing the Muslim community a blessed Ramadhan.
