The sorry state of the Nyakanengo stretch along the Murutenga-Nyamasizi-Kerere road in Hamurwa Sub County, Rubanda East County, Rubanda District, has annoyed users. Commonly known as Kanyeihamba road, the 14.4 kilometre road branches off Kabale-Kisoro road and connects the area to the Hamurwa-kanungu-Kihihi-Ishasha road. It also serves as an alternative to the Hamurwa-kanungu-Kihihi-Ishasha road when the Hamurwa floating spot, commonly known as Road Tall, is cut off by floods.
However, locals say that the Nyakanengo spot has turned the road useless due to its sorry state. Fred Bagamba, Aron Turyahikirira from Nyakanengo in Ruhonwa parish, Amos Ainamatsiko from Ruborooga in Mpungu parish, and Godfrey Ainaamaani, all residents in the area, explain that even during the dry season, the stretch keeps flooding due to poor drainage. They say the situation worsens when it rains as floods block vehicles from crossing.
They say this problem forces them to use local stretchers named in the Rukiga language “Engozi” to rush patients to health facilities. They say the problem has stayed for very many years. They also say the stretch has suffocated the boda boda business in the area. They also say that the sorry state of the spot has greatly affected learners in the nearby schools as they struggle to cross. John Habimana, Rubanda District Engineer, says that he has informed the Ministry of Works and Transport for help
