The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working jointly with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), arraigned Owani Kenneth Allan before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala on charges of corruption and conspiracy to defraud.
Owani becomes the third suspect in a bribery case involving a UGX 70 million solicitation linked to a land transaction in Lira District. He joins former Lira District Land Board Chairperson Chankoma Paul and Councillor Ojuka Anthony, who were earlier charged over the same matter.
According to the prosecution, the trio allegedly solicited a UGX 70 million bribe from Eryao Francis, a land buyer in Lira, and had already received UGX 5 million as part payment. The accused claimed that the land title had been issued fraudulently to the previous owners and was due for cancellation.
They reportedly promised Eryao that they could influence the decision of the land board to protect his title from being revoked. Owani has been remanded until 2nd June 2025 as investigations into the matter continue.
