Three individuals were charged on Thursday with threatening violence against Ronald Bakak, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Kabale.

The accused, Hafisa Burera, Vastina Mukakigeri, and Charles Swaib Nyamurwana, all residents of Nyabikoni in Central Division, Kabale Municipality, were involved in an incident on May 21, 2024, at the Kabale district headquarters on Makanga Hill, Central Division, Kabale Municipality.

They had appeared before Bakak’s office to resolve land disputes with their relatives, led by Agnes Mukamanzi and Moses Kewell, from the same residence.

During the mediation process, Burera, Mukakigeri, and Nyamurwana had a heated disagreement with Mukamanzi’s faction, resulting in a physical altercation.

Bakak managed to calm the situation and advised the parties to return when they were less angry. This advice infuriated Burera, Mukakigeri, and Nyamurwana, leading them to attempt to assault Bakak and threaten further action against him. Consequently, Bakak filed a case with the Kabale police, resulting in their arrest.

The trio appeared before the Kabale Chief Magistrates Court on Thursday evening, where they were charged with threatening violence contrary to section 81(a) of the Penal Code Act.

His worship Derrick Byamugisha, the Kabale Chief Magistrate, released the accused on a bail of 2 million shillings (non-cash). Byamugisha adjourned the case until July 22, 2024.
