Three senior six candidates from Kigezi High School in Kabale district were charged and remanded on Tuesday evening for causing grievous harm to a senior one student.

The accused, Japhes Owoyesiga (19), Lucy Ainebyoona (20), and Hosea Kwetegyeka (20), were alleged to have assaulted and injured Anselem Akampurira, a senior one student, on November 23, 2023, during a bullying incident.

During the hearing, His Worship Julius Mutabaazi, Kabale Grade One Magistrate, rejected Owoyesiga’s bail request, noting that Owoyesiga had presented a tenant from his father’s house instead of his biological father as a surety. Mutabaazi stated that a tenant has no standing regarding the landlord’s children.

Additionally, Mutabaazi denied one of Ainebyoona’s sureties because the surety lacked an introductory letter from the LC1 chairman of his residence and failed to provide a work identity card proving his employment as a teacher at Kigezi High School.

The trio was remanded to Ndorwa Government Prison until Thursday, June 13, 2024, when a ruling on their bail application will be given.
