Ugandan Abu Dhabi Community Gets New Leaders

The Abu Dhabi Ugandan Community, under the Association of Ugandans in United Arab Emirates (AUU), held a significant swearing-in and handover ceremony at the Enchanted Hall, Electra Street, Abu Dhabi.

The event, which took place on July 13th 2024, marked the introduction of the newly elected Executive Committee members led by Ismail Okedi as Chairman, Fauzia Muwakani as Vice Chairperson, Kyobe Sekatawa Hamim as General Secretary, Opira Abasi as Treasurer, Lwamanyi Umar as Speaker, Achili Otim Karim for Workers Affairs, Bikolwa Ali as Head of Media & Publicity Executive, Kaliisa Meeme Florence for Welfare, Nandinye Ratisha as Woman Representative, Ntale Joseph as Senior Mobilizer, Nanziri Shamim for Business and Investment, Nyenjje Musa as Sports Director, Bajarame Mercy for Ethics & Integrity, and Kasozi Timothy as Senior Advisor.

Additionally, the following members were appointed to the committee: Jumba Brian and Dorothy N. as Media & Publicity Assistants, Mugalu Hamidu as Assistant Mobilizer, Matovu Ahmed as Welfare Assistant, Nsisi Angella and Ntuyo Ananias Herbert for Culture Affairs.

A team of advisors was also appointed, including Steven Rubinga, Lugoloobi Ibrahim, Johnson Ssengendo, and Winnie Nansamba.

The ceremony was honored by the presence of the Ambassador of Uganda to the UAE, H.E. Hon. Zaake Kibedi Wanume, the embassy’s First Secretary Mr. Ronnie Karakire, and various UAE government officials. Prominent figures from the Ugandan community in the UAE, such as Mr. Abdulbasti Nsubuga (AUU President), Sheik Abasi Haruna Nsubuga (Kabaka’s representative in UAE), and Mr. Umar Bakasambe (Kabaka’s Representative in Dubai), were also present.

In his speech, Ambassador Zaake Kibedi Wanume expressed his gratitude to the UAE government for maintaining a strong relationship with Uganda.

He commended the outgoing committee for their efforts in uniting Ugandans through various activities and highlighted the embassy’s initiative to tour the Emirates, meeting with Ugandans to understand and address their concerns.

He encouraged Ugandans to participate actively in these meetings and acknowledged individuals who have significantly contributed to the community, urging local leaders to identify and recognize such individuals.

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to several individuals for their dedicated service to the community, including Ismail Sebugwaawo, Ronnie Senyonjo, Kalule Don Banks family, Steven Rubinga, Johnson Ssengendo, Hawa Nasuuna, Timothy Kasozi, Winnie Nansamba, Joseph Ntale, Ismail Okedi, and Ibrahim Lugolobi.

The swearing-in of the new Executive Committee was conducted by Mr. Stephen Rubinga, and the handover exercise was led by Mr. Ronnie Senyonjo, the outgoing Vice Chairman.
