The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) General Assembly has concluded its annual meeting, marked by the adoption of critical resolutions aimed at advancing the council’s objectives.
Among the key decisions made during the two-day session, held from January 15–16, 2025, at the UMSC Headquarters in Old Kampala, was the continued implementation of self-sufficiency agro-projects. These initiatives, which are already benefiting Muslim communities across 10 regions, will receive additional funding from the UMSC National Management Committee to further boost household incomes.
Another significant resolution was the designation of June 10 as the official Muslim Martyrs Day. This day will now be observed nationwide, with prayers conducted at all levels, from the UMSC headquarters to village mosques, in honor of Muslim martyrs. The assembly also approved the establishment of a home for abandoned children, a proposal presented by the National Women Council, and acknowledged the appointment of His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafidh Muhammad Harunah Bukenya as the 2nd Deputy Mufti.
The meeting also saw the recognition of new Muslim districts, increasing their number to 82 across the country. Additionally, the issue of suspended assembly members accused of gross indiscipline was referred to the National Executive Committee for further action. The assembly concluded by approving the 2025 budget, amounting to UGX 32 billion, along with strategies to enhance revenue generation.
Chaired by the National Chairperson, Prof. Dr. Muhammadi Lubega Kisambira, the assembly was attended by over 245 members, including His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the Deputy Mufti, and His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafidh Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the 2nd Deputy Mufti.
