The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has dismissed Sheikh Huzaima Magumba from his position as District Kadhi of Bugweri after investigations revealed he submitted forged academic credentials.

In a May 26, 2025 letter, the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Dr. Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, said the decision followed a formal complaint from concerned Muslims in Bugweri questioning the authenticity of Sheikh Magumba’s Thanawi certificate, a key academic requirement for the position.

“After a comprehensive review, it has been established that the documents you submitted were forged. This act constitutes a serious violation of the UMSC Constitution,” the Mufti wrote, citing Article 19(3)(b), which outlines the academic qualifications for District Kadhis.

The Mufti directed Sheikh Magumba to vacate office immediately and hand over all UMSC property in his possession to the District Chairperson without delay.

“This action is taken to uphold the integrity, credibility, and values of the Uganda Muslim leadership and to preserve the trust of the Muslim community in Bugweri and the Nation at large,” the letter stated.

Copies of the termination letter were sent to the UMSC national leadership, the Busoga Muslim Regional leadership, and local authorities, including the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), the District Police Commander (DPC), and the Local Council Chairperson.

The UMSC has not yet named a replacement for the position.
