The Uganda National Examinations Board has objected to a defense by St. Benedict High School Tororo whose 2013 O-level results were cancelled on suspicion of examination malpractice. This implies that at least 100 students who sat for O-Level at the center will have to repeat the class.

The development was unveiled over the weekend during a crisis meeting between the affected parents and school management.

The school Head teacher Silver Okumu told parents that although the school put up a spirited fight to secure the cancelled results, its defense was rejected by the examinations body. According to UNEB, the affected candidates were given advanced instructions before examinations.

The school advised parents to accept the fate and have their children enrolled to repeat. He said the school would meet the cost of registration for all affected candidates.

‘We know it’s painful, wastage of resources and time on the side of the parents and candidates but the school does not have any option apart from supporting the affected students to re-sit for their Uganda Certificate of Education [UCE] this year 2014’’ the head teacher said.

But majority of the parents have objected to the suggestion saying the school administration has not fully explained the cause for the cancellation.

Godfrey Oketcho Sanyu, one of the affected parents accused the school administration of dictating decisions to suit its interest without considering the impact caused by the cancellation of results to parents and candidates in terms of time and resources.

UNEB has recommended that the Biology teacher responsible for all these in the school be fired immediately or the school risks losing the center number.
