Court in Gulu has ordered the deportation of thirty two foreign nationals. The foreign nationals including thirty Kenyans and two Cameroonian nationals were picked up by Ugandan security from Ilegu border market early this week in an operation against illegal immigrants. Fifteen of the Kenyan women w have been operating restaurants and bars in Ilegu border market. Some of the affected people have been identified as Naome Wanjiku, Isaac Kiraga, Esther Waguta, Lucy Njoikimana, Stanley Karati and Angella Muthoni.
Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson says the thirty two appeared on Tuesday before Gulu Chief Magistrate’s court where they were charged with two counts of staying illegally in Uganda and working without a permit. He says 15 Kenyan women have been given two weeks to formalize their stay in Uganda failure of which they will be deported. Fifteen of the convicts were to be transported on Wednesday evening to the Ugandan border town of Malaba to be handed over to the Kenyan authorities. Okema warns foreigners who are in the country illegally to formalize their stay to avoid being deported back to their home countries.

Section 66 of the Uganda Immigration Control Act makes it illegal for a foreigner to unlawfully enter into the country while section 59 sub section two (A) makes it illegal for a foreigner to live and work in Uganda without a permit.
