Ekiring who plays professional badminton in Holland told URN said he is in good shape and ready to perform well on home ground.
The former Nsambya Sharing Club player who has participated in two Olympic Games is ranked seven for the tournament which will climax on February 22. Milan Ludik who is ranked 94 by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) has been seeded top in the men's singles.
Simon Mugabi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) revealed that the qualifiers for the men's singles will start on Thursday before action in the main draw takes centre stage on Friday.
While many Ugandan players will have to battle through the qualifiers, Italy's duo of Pirmin Klotzner and Matteo Bellucci, Mohamed Amine Guelmou, Mohamed Abderrahime Belarbi, Adel Hamek (Algeria), Kamaldeef Singh (India) anmd Kenya's John Muiruri Mburu will also feature in the round for qualifiers.
Mugabi said although Dinuka Karunaratne will not defend his men's singles title, other players from Sri Lanka have been drawn in the tournament which will take place at the MTN Arena, Lugogo. The event will have the men's and women's singles and doubles, together with the mixed doubles.
The other foreign players who have been drawn in the tournament will come from; India, Egypt, Slovakia, Turkey, Hungary, Nigeria, Slovenia, Algeria, Seychelles, South Africa, Bulgaria, Kenya, Mauritius and Iran.
