While receiving the defectors, President Yoweri Meseveni asked the National Resistance Movement party leaders to teach them the party ideology and programmes.

278 members of the Forum for Democratic Change party in Arua have defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement party.
The defectors were received by the NRM chairman, also presidential flag bearer, Yoweri Museveni at Arua Hill Boma Grounds on Monday.

Museveni is currently hunting for votes in the West Nile region.
While receiving the defectors, Museveni asked the NRM party leaders to ensure that they are enlightened on party ideology and programmes.
Steven Gala, one of the defectors says he has been a supporter of the FDC party because his father talked positively about it.
"I was following FDC just because my father follows it and talks ill about Museveni and good about Kizza (Besigye, FDC flag-bearer), but today, I have witnessed the plans that Museveni has and they clearly prove my father wrong,'' Gala said.
Ashraf Swali, says he was part of the opposition because of complaints that government had failed to fight corruption, ignoring all the good work of government.
However, some FDC members in the district believe that the defection was not genuine. Deogratius Aluma says the alleged defectors are only targeting money from the ruling party.
