The national festival participating schools are the best choir teams selected from their regional level competitions. The events begin from school levels; then schools go to zones, zones to counties and counties go to districts where a maximum of four best schools with at least 47 choir members each are selected to represent a region at the national festival.

Performing arts education is a timetabled and skill based subject.
