Jane Emodiai, a 51-year-old mother living with HIV/AIDS, is among the 183 senior four candidates sitting for their final examinations at Tororo Universal College (TUC) in Tororo Municipality.

Emodiai is also working with MIFUMI, an international Non-governmental Women’s rights organization based in Uganda as an independent domestic advisor in charge Western division in Tororo municipality.

Speaking to URN on Monday morning before the start of the Geograhy paper one exams at her centre, the mother revealed that she sat for her primary leaving examinations at Abubakar primary school in Tororo town in 2009 immediately after the death of her husband Christopher Emodiai.

Dressed smartly in her school uniform of blue skirt, cream blouse, blue neck tie and black shoes, Emodiai said she was motivated to go back to school so as to give hope to the elderly and those living with HIV that there is still hope to further their studies and get better jobs thereafter despite their status.

According to her, she looks forward to becoming a rights activist who would stand to defend women who think they do not have a voice to come out of domestic violence.

Adeka Ofwono Oboth, Emodiai’s teacher for the past four years at Tororo Universal College has described the student as hard working, disciplined and a counsellor to fellow students.

Oboth says he taught Emodiai’s three daughters at Tororo Girls’ School and they were all successful with one of them, Barbra Akware, currently serving as the youth councillor for Merikit sub county, Tororo district.
