Nine Arrested for Theft in Mbarara

Up to  nine people have been arrested by police in Mbarara in connection with theft which  took place on Christmas day.

Those arrested include; Johnson Kironde (57), Asaph Byaruhanga (25), Medadi Nduhura (22), Venasio Twesigye (26) residents of Kashare Sub County, Kashari north Mbarara district. Julius Namanya (29), a resident of Rubaya sub county, Kashari south, Mbarara District.

Others are; Ustance Sikukuru (46) a resident of Rwampara, Alex Ngabirano (37), Henry Kansiime (30) residents of Kashongi sub-county in Kiruhura district.

Mbarara District Police Commander  Jaffar Magyezi says that some of the suspects are said to have slaughtered stolen cattle on Christmas day in hidden places while others took advantage of the excitement that day to steal livestock.

Magyezi says that two cows had already been slaughtered while two others were being transported to other places. He added that herdsmen hired to look after cattle often connive with the thieves and aid the theft.
