The three nurses accused of showing Dr. Kizza Besigye, the Forum for Democratic Change Presidential candidate, around Abim Hospital without authorisation, have been pardoned. They are Santina Adong, Immaculate Akio and Paska Akello.

The three nurses ran in trouble when showed Besigye around the dilapidated hospital during his campaign trail in the district on December 5, 2015. The television footage from the hospital drew uproar from the public prompting Moses Nandhala Kaziba, the Abim Chief Administrative Officer to sanction the nurses for disciplinary action.

He accused the nurses of acting without authorisation. The matter drew the attention of Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union-UNMU. On Tuesday, a team from Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union led by their President, Janet D. Obuni, Project officer, John Okwir Odong and Legal Officer, Robinah Kagoye, met the Abim District technical staff to forge a way forward.

During the meeting, the two parties reached consensus to pardon the nurses. "The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union on behalf of her members and the Chief Administrative Officer and other officials of Abim District have agreed on this day 22nd day of December 2015 after a lengthy discussing and carefully examining the prevailing issues jointly agreed to exonerate the said nurses from disciplinary action," reads a state cosigned by Obuni and the CAO.

The statement is also countersigned by other district officials as witnesses. Moses Nandhala Kaziba, the Abim Chief Administrative Officer told URN shortly after the meeting that he was happy with the decision. He cautioned civil servants in the district against flouting regulations.

Janet D. Obuni, the President Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union-UNMU, also appreciated the CAO for accepting to resolve the matter through dialogue.  Government has tightened security at Abim hospital as a result of Besigye's visit.
