The plan by Kasana catholic diocese to boost household incomes in Luweero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola this year suffered a setback due to adverse weather conditions.

Early this year, Kasana catholic diocese through its development arm Caritas Kasanaensis invested up to UGX 1 billion in various farming projects in greater Luweero to boost household incomes.
Reverend Fr. Hilary Muheeza, the Director Caritas Kasanaensis says the money was given to more than 1000 beneficiaries to boost their output and save their earnings with the Savings & Credit Organizations - SACCOS started by the diocese.
He says they expected the beneficiaries to raise up to UGX 100M from their harvest but they ended up with UGX 9M. Muheeza attributes the poor returns to adverse weather effects resulting from Global warming.
In his end of the year report, Reverend Muheeza says the prolonged dry spell in June and November took a huge toll on plantations and animals and thereby affecting the farmer's incomes.

He notes that, despite the fact that the European Union has promised to inject 11m Euros to combat the negative effects of climate change in the cattle corridor districts of Luweero, Nakaseke, Nakasongola, Mubende, Kiboga and Sembabule, they also need to join the struggle by laying strategies such as intensifying afforestation to mitigate the effects.
