Alex Ruhunda Leads Fort Portal MP Seat

Alex Ruhunda, the NRM Flag bearer Fort Portal municipality Member of Parliament is leading his rivals with 51.15 percent, in the provisional results released. According to Suleman Kato, the returning officer Kabarole results received from the 58 polling stations, Ruhunda has 94,079 votes showing 51.15%.He was speaking to the media at the tally center Mugurusi road Fort Portal municipality. He says Fort Portal municipality has 60 polling stations and results from two polling stations are not yet received. Kato says that Steven Kaliba, the incumbent MP is second with 6,785 votes indicating 36.61 percent. Kaliba was knocked out by Alex Ruhunda in the primaries and contested on the independent ticket. Patrick Rubongoya, an independent and architecture polled 1,967 votes showing 10.61 percent. Akugizibwe Solomon of FDC is trailing with 308 votes indicating 1.63 percent. Kato says 485 votes were invalid. He says the exercise was peaceful and no case of electoral related violence was recorded. Ruhunda was former director Kabarole Research and Resource center KRC an NGO operating in the Rwenzori region in capacity building.
