Amudat Leaders Protest Delayed Repair of Cholol Bridge

Leaders in Amudat district have protested the delayed repair of Cholol Bridge. The Bridge lies on the main road connecting Nakapiripirit and Amudat districts, about 15 kilometres off Nakapiripirit-Moroto highway. 



However, the bridge that was built by the colonial government in 1953 broke down three years ago and has never been repaired to date. Its condition has remained a huge challenge to transport especially during the rainy season.

Last year, several vehicles and motorcycles were washed away during the heavy rains.


Wilson Lopongo, the LC3 Amudat Town Council says many people have lost their lives along the bridge since it broke down.

Dorcus Chalain, the LC5 Vice Chairperson, Amudat says they have discussed the state of the bridge with several government officials but nothing is forthcoming. She notes that prices of commodities including food hike during rainy season due to inaccessibility of the district from Cholol.

Information from residents in Amudat indicates that the bridge gave way after heavy trucks carrying marble and limestone from Amudat and Kosiroi in Moroto started passing over it.
