2124 Views Amuria, Uganda
Primary school teachers in Amuria district have threatened to go on strike to protest against delayed salaries. The visibly enraged teachers have filed a strike notice. They say that they are demanding for 183 million shillings in salary arrears. The district's Chief Administrative Officer, Richard Alioka explains that the May salaries were not paid on time because of a shortfall in the district education budget. Alioka explains that it was difficult to clear all the arrears because the Ministry of Finance released only 2 million shillings out of the 183 million shillings needed to pay salaries for all teachers on the payroll. Alioka says that the district needs 181 million shillings to clear the May salary arrears.
