An angry mob has attacked Nalweyo sub county chairperson, Solomon Womugisa’s home in Kiryamasa village, Kibaale district accusing him of hiding a suspect.

Solomon Womugisa had used his authority to shortly detain 60 year-old Pantareo barikagira, a resident of Rukanga village, Masaka parish, Nalweyo Sub County who is accused of vandalizing graves in the area.

Barikagira was arrested by residents and local council officials on Monday night after he was found digging up a grave where the body remains of one Paul Karusigarira had been laid to rest on Monday morning. He was rushed to Owomugisa’s Home for protection.

However on Tuesday morning a gang of charged residents armed with spears, pangas, hammers and bricks attacked the home and accused Owomugisa of attempting to shield him from police arrest. They pelted stones at the house, some of which hit the targeted individuals leaving them with serious injuries.

Anti-riot Police quelled the chaos and whisked the suspect away. He is now detained at Nalweyo police post as investigations into the matter kick off.

Hebert Mubangizi, the Masaka parish Councilor says that the angry mob later demolished the suspect’s house and cut down his one acre of coffee plantation. Residents are accusing him of practicing witchcraft.
