Aspirant Petitions NRM Commission Over Bribery

An aspirant in the NRM party primaries for the Kwania County parliamentary seat is accusing his rival of bribing voters.

An aspirant seeking to contest to become the NRM flag bearer for the Kwania county Parliamentary seat has petitioned the party's electoral commission accusing his rival of bribing voters.

Henry Makmot in a letter to the Chairperson NRM Electoral Commission says the incumbent Kwania County MP, Tony Ayo has been giving out money and other material items to newly elected Parish and Sub County chairpersons of NRM.

"I am writing to petition your office to immediately take appropriate action on Hon Tonny Ayo who has been openly bribing voters and the newly elected party officials in Kwania county with a large sum of money and various items" he said in a petition dated 19th  September 2015.

He said Tony Ayo during his consultation meetings has been giving out saucepans, tarpaulins, plastic plates and chairs to the various groups in the constituency.

Okello Makmot in a letter received by the NRM Electoral Commission says Tony Ayo on 15th September donated items valued at close to two million shillings during meetings he held at Kevin   ,Agwiciri , Inomo corner and Inomo parishes and Aduku town council.

Makmot says  Hon. Tony Ayo on 16th September gave out ten-kilogram bags of maize seed, hand hoes and ten thousand shillings to each of the newly elected 37 NRM parish and the five sub counties  chairpersons in all the  in the county.

"Sir, the vote buying activities of September 16th ,2015 took place at night at the home of Ayo's supporters, one Mr George Otucu alias George Okasa in Otongole cell, Aduku town council where he supervised personally. While at the same time boasting that he has put aside shs 400=M so that all the NRM chairmen who shall vote for him in order to defeat me in the NRM primaries shall not be poor again. Most of the beneficiaries have since kept the items as evidence and are willing to tender the same to your office" the petition reads in part.

When contacted for comment, Kwania county MP, Tony Ayo said the petition by his rival in NRM primaries does not stand and hold water. He challenged Makmot to present evidence or desists from making what he called false claims.

The Apac district Registrar, Robert Oyuru Eper confirmed that they have received a copy of the petition and that investigations were on.

Others in the race for the NRM primaries for Kwania county seat include, Obada Ceaser, Lidya Alobo and Patrick Ogwal Agweno.
