Olung Health Center III, the biggest health facility in Lukole Sub County in Agago district has been closed due to an invasion by migratory bees.

Work has stalled at the health center since Monday when a swarm of bees descended on the health facility located in Olung Parish.

Health workers abandoned the facility for fear of being attacked by the bees.

Patients who turned up for treatment on Thursday morning returned home empty handed after finding bees flying in the health facility's compound without anybody to attend to them.

Francis Okumu, a resident neighboring the health center, said bees have settled in one of the ceiling boards in the health facility. He says they could have smoked out the bees but fear burning the ceiling.

Okumu said the insects flood houses and their compounds in search of sweet substances. Dr. Emmanuel Otto, the Agago District Health Officer has convened a meeting with the management of the health center to discuss possibility of fumigating the insects.

Dr. Otto told URN that they have taken measures in other health facilities to stop a similar occurrence. Migratory bees are common in northern Uganda during dry season.
