Fifty countries have already entered team for the 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championship to take place in Uganda.

Beatrice Ayikoru, the Secretary of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told URN on Monday that over 50 countries have confirmed participation including Brazil and Spain. The event will take place March 26th at the Kololo Independence Grounds.

"Yes Brazil, Spain and China are among the latest to enter teams. We expect many more countries to enter by next week," added Ayikoru, also the secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC).

Uganda's Olympic gold medal winner in marathon in 2012 Stephen Kiprotich is also part of Uganda's team.

Over 700 athletes from across the globe are expected to compete at the biennial event, which is the oldest event in the IAAF world series. Uganda beat Bahrain in the bid to host the Championship.

Among some of the countries that have entered include: The Gambia, Morocco, Algeria, Comoros, Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Iraq, Great Britain, Japan, Canada, China, Australia, Brazil, Peru, France, Spain, Italy and Sri Lanka.
