Bufumbira East Parliamentary Elections Set for March 9th

Electoral Commission has set March 9th 2016 as the date for the fresh Bufumbira East parliamentary elections in Kisoro district.

The new date comes after the elections were called off on February 18th polls following a petition by Dr. James Nsaba Buturo, the NRM party candidate over a mix-up of candidate's symbols on the ballot.

Buturo petitioned the Commission after he was assigned a bicycle on the ballot paper instead of a bus, which is the official symbol of NRM party candidates. 
 
The former ethics and integrity minister was initially, nominated as an independent candidate after his rival, Eddie Kwizera Waghahungu secured a court order restraining NRM from presenting him as its flag bearer citing flawed polls.

However, Buturo petitioned high court, which overturned the order went ahead to get nominated as the NRM candidate.
 
The other candidates in the race are Eddie Kwizera, the incumbent who is contesting as an independent and Mathias Habakwiha of Forum for Democratic Change - FDC party. 

There are 42,408 registered voters and 83 polling stations in Bufumbira East constituency, which is comprised of Nyakabande, Murora, Kanaba, Nyundo and Bukimbiri sub counties.

Similarly, elections will be taking place in Dokolo South, Kibale County, Kitagwenda County, Busiki County and Mawogola South. 

The districts of Buyende, Kween, Kyegegwa and Yumbe will also be voting for the woman members of parliament on the same day.
