Buganda parliamentary caucus has asked Masaka district local administration to relocate its premises to pave way for Mengo to use the building for its development project. Masaka district operates from Ssaza headquarters which belongs to Buganda Kingdom. Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, spokesman Buganda Caucus says that they want the district to vacate the Ssaza headquarters to pave way for Mengo to use it for other development purposes.
He says that they want the kingdom to repossess its premises to avoid conflicts between central government and Mengo. Ssempijja explains that during his administration as Masaka District LC V chairman he secured a 4 acre piece of land to build the district headquarter but the incumbent leadership has failed to complete it.
He says that even president Yoweri Museveni is aware that they in the process of tabling a bill compelling government to hand over all kingdom property. Joseph Karungi, Masaka District LC V chairman says that they would have relocated to their building by January this year but the district lacks funds to complete the construction.
He however, does not explain how much money is needed to complete the building, and when they expect to get it. Karungi appeals to Buganda caucus to allow them continue using the building until their new headquarters is ready for occupation.
