The controversial market is located at the junction along Jinja – Iganga highway and Gulume road in Budhumbuli East village in Bugembe town council.

Although traders are refuting claims that the 1-acre piece of land belongs to the businessman, Kabusere maintains he bought the land before the market vendors were relocated from the roadside where they had been operating. He claims the move was effected without his consent in 2008.

He says he now wants to utilize the land to construct an arcade

The Market chairperson, Rachael Mutesi accuses politicians of plotting to evict vendors from their own land.  She adds that the market has more than 600 occupants who have nowhere to go if they are evicted.

Richard Munga one of the vendors says the market land was sold off fraudulently and district leaders of colluding with the land board and the businessman to grab the land

He says the traders first learned of Kabusere's intentions in 2009 but were halted mysteriously and before claims of eviction resurfaced last month.

Steven Wante, Bugembe town council LC3 Chairman says he is not in position to comment on the matter which he claims is highly politicized.

Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development David Migereko says the matter is being resolved.

Migereko says the vendors should not worry about being evicted from where they are currently because there are also plans to construct a 3-storey modern market at Bugembe central market.
