Bukomansimbi District council has proposed the creation of a new constituency.

Christine Mukiibi, the LC5 Vice Chairperson presented to the district council a draft motion seeking to curve a new constituency out of Bukomansimbi North County.

In her motion, Mukiibi indicates that the idea was generated by the lower local councils at the parish and Sub-county levels who feel that the current constituency is too big to be represented by one Member of Parliament.

She indicates that while Bukomansimbi South constituency is comprised of two sub-counties, the other county of Bukomansimbi North is comprised of 5 sub-counties.

Mukiibi indicates in her motion that the proposal was assented to by the district executive committee and now awaits council resolution.

Hajj Muhammad Kateregga, the LCV Chairperson says that leaders of Bukomansimbi town council, Kitanda and Bukomansimbi sub-counties formally presented the proposal to his offices arguing the need for effective representation and services delivery.

However, James Muhabwa the District Council Speaker blocked debate on the motion, ruling that the council need time to consult with their electorates for their view about it.

But Hassan Hamis Masereka, the Chief Administrative Officer had guided council to send the motion to district general-purpose committee to have it clearly studied before it is debated in the council.
