The Water and Environment has unveiled the proposed construction of a piped water supply project in Bukomansimbi district raising the hope of residents to access safe clean water.

At the moment people in Bukomansimbi district trek long distances to fetch water from swamps that they share with animals. However, this is bound to change because of the African Development Bank funded Water and Sanitation Development Facility-WSFD project.

Engineer Robert Nzeimana, the Central zone project coordinator in the Ministry of Water and Environment, says the new project will supply water to at least 10,000 homesteads in the area once completed.

He says the new project will see the construction of a reservoir with 400,000 liter capacity and a permanent water supply network connecting 30 villages in Butenga and Kibinge Sub counties.

Nzeimana says the ministry is in the final stages of identifying a contractor to quantify the project sum, adding that construct work is expected to before end of March this year.

Charles Matovu, the Bukomansimbi District Water Officer, says the water project is long overdue given the huge demand for water in the district.
