There are renewed calls by voters in Bokoto West to break away from Masaka and join Lyantonde district. The Bukoto West Member of Parliament Abdul Kitata has urged his electorate to join mass demonstrations in protest against the dominance by the mainstream Masaka district. Kitata argues that his constituency which is made up of Kyazaanga and Malongo sub counties in the western side of Masaka district lags behind in as far as distribution of social services and infrastructural development are concerned. He claims that his constituents travel over 60km for treatment at Masaka Regional Referral hospital and yet Lyantonde is nearby. Kitata claims that Kyazaanga health centre three, the only one that serves residents in the two sub counties lacks a permanent doctor. He says several people have lost their lives while being transferred to Masaka hospital for treatment. Kitata also claims that the health center constantly suffers from drug stock outs which is hurting the well being of people in Bukoto west. Vincent Kayitana, the Kyazanga sub county chairperson says Masaka district has failed to rehabilitate the Kyazanga Ndagwe Road connecting to Rakai and Lyantonde districts. He says the bad road network in Malongo and Kyazaanga sub counties hampers the transportation of Matooke especially during the rainy season. Vincent Ssempijja the Masaka district chairman has described the demand by Bukoto West MP Kitata as absurd. Ssempijja says the claims by Kitata that there is unfair distribution of social services in the district are regrettable. Ssempijja say that resources in the district are allocated according to the population of individual sub counties. During the run up to 2006 General Elections, agitators of the Lyantonde district had proposed to annex Bukoto West and Kacheera Sub County in Rakai to Lyantonde district. Kooki's Kamuswaga Apollo Kabumbuli is however opposed to the proposal.
