The victims who are residents of the two villages were killed by a mudslide that buried homes during a heavy downpour.

Residents and survivors say the incident happened shortly after midnight during a heavy down pour that had lasted for more than five hours.

A somber mood hangs in Kimuli, the scene of the landslide as hordes of villagers throng the usually quiet trading center to witness the tragic incident.

Mary Asio, a survivor who wailed uncontrollably said she lost her two children and a husband in the landslide. She was lucky to survive because she left her home a few hours to the landslide following a disagreement with her spouse.
