High court in Jinja has dismissed an election petition filed against Buyende Woman Member of Parliament Veronica Babirye Kadogo.
Kadogo was sued by her opponent Nakato Mary-Anne on grounds of voter bribery, sabotage and electoral malpractice. Nakato accused Kadogo of giving voters mosquito nets and saucepans in exchange for votes.
Kadogo, who contested as an independent candidate garnered 22,720 votes while Nakato, the National Resistance Movement - NRM party candidate polled 14,020 votes. The Forum for Democratic Change's (FDC) party candidate Sarah Nawaigulo trailed with 243 votes.
But Nakato argued that malpractices in Bugaya and Kagulu Sub Counties substantially affected the outcome of the polls.
But Justice Godfrey Namundi dismissed the petition with costs saying that the evidence produced by the petitioner was insufficient.
