The Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala has Tuesday morning committed Minister Abraham Byandala to the High Court over Katosi Road fraud.

The Minister without Portfolio is facing trial over his alleged fraudulent role in the upgrade of Mukono-Katosi-Nyenga road that saw government lose over 24 billion shillings.

The committal process that was presided over by Senior Grade One Magistrate, Julius Borore, followed the completion of investigations by the Inspector General of Government.

Also committed to the High Court are Eng. Berunado Kimeze - the former acting Executive Director of Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), Joe Ssemugoona - the former acting director finance and Administration at UNRA, Apollo Senkeeto alias Mark Kalyesubula, a businessman.

Others are Isaac Mugote - a former banker with Housing Finance Bank Ltd and Marvin Baryaruha, the former legal counsel for UNRA.

Prosecution alleges that Byandala abused his office as Works and Transport Minister when he ordered the signing of Katosi road contract.

Byandala is said to have directed the immediate signing of the contract between UNRA and EUTAW, an American construction firm, yet the company lacked capacity to perform and it was a sham company. He denies the allegations.

The IGG Irene Mulyagonja in her summary of evidence presented to court, says she will produce evidence at the trial to show that the six are guilty as charged.

The suspects will appear in court on 12th January, 2016 for mention. It is then when the hearing will be fixed, before a judge yet to be named.

Byandala and co-accused had their bail extended until January when they appear for mention.
