Chelangat Travels For Seiko Golden Grand Prix In Osaka

The 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Mercyline Chelangat has this afternoon traveled to Osaka, Japan for the Seiko Golden Grand Prix slated for may 20th.


" I am excited that I will be getting back on the track to compete in the 3000m race on Sunday,"  Chelangat told URN on phone before she headed  to Entebbe International Airport to board an Emirates Airlines flight.


Chelangat who won a bronze medal in the 10,000m race at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will compete in the 3000m race in the Yanmar Stadium Nagai in Osaka on May 20th.


Dominic Otuchet, President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told URN  that Chelangat has so many competitions lined up for the season. " After winning a medal at the Commonwealth Games, Chelangat and many of our athletes are receiving many invitations now," added Otuchet.

Chelangat will however face tough competition from among others Kenya's Ann Karindi Mwangi, Shuru Bulo (Ethiopia) and Australia's Lacaze Genevieve.


The same weekend Chelangat will be in action will also see Stella Chesang and Mande Abdalla take part in the FNB Cape Town 12 Onerun in South Africa.


Chesang won a gold medal in the 10,000m race at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia.
