The Chief Justice has started his countrywide tour of the courts aimed at familiarizing himself with the third arm of state, that he took over in March this year.

Justice Bart Katureebe begun his country wide tour from the Eastern District of Mbale.
The Chief Justice was shocked to learn that Bukwo court has not had a state prosecutor for the past one year. Because of this, criminal cases are not being prosecuted. The court only handles civil matters related to land.

This revelation was made by Kapchorwa Grade One Magistrate, Hood Matovu during a meeting with the judicial officers and support staff at Mbale High Court.

However, Matovu did not explain to the meeting what they do with suspected criminals.
The Chief Justice in his remarks to the judicial officers, cautioned the magistrates to avoid corruption tendencies, saying they are the face of the judiciary since they are the first contact with the public.

Some of the challenges cited by the judicial officers include poor transport, slow computers, lack of enough furniture especially when they get interns and small allowances.

Justice Katureebe will be heading to Soroti on Wednesday and thereafter to Tororo and Iganga courts on Thursday.
