Club De Moroni of Comoros battled to settle for a goalless draw against hosts Vipers SC in the first leg of the Total CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round tie on Saturday.

It was all celebrations for the visiting side after the final whistle in a game watched by a small crowd at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

After 31 minutes Vipers SC who had dominated the game from the start had a clear chance missed by Milton Kaliisa who missed the target by inches. Striker Tony Odur also had his shot punched out of danger by the Club De Moroni goalkeeper Faiz Ousseine.

In the second half Vipers SC coach Richard Wasswa made some substitutions bringing in Brian Kakaire and Ibrahim Kayiwa but to no avail as the visiting side defended in numbers.

Djabira Kamre had his chance for Club De Moroni saved after 70 minutes after the Vipers SC defenders had been beaten, but goalkeeper Ismail Watenga was well positioned to make a crucial save.

Vipers SC put lots of pressure towards the end of the game, but the visiting team played with a defensive approach blocking all the crosses in the box.

"It is unfortunate we failed to score goals at home, but we must continue working hard ahead of the return leg next weekend," said Vipers SC coach Wasswa.

The Club De Moroni player Ibraohim Diabira said they were happy to get a draw away from home. "This is a very good result because we are not very exposed at the international stage," he added.
