Mbarara police is investigating one of its own for allegedly conniving with mechanics to to sell off spare parts from impounded motorcycles. Martin Tukamuhebwa, Mbarara District Police Commander identifies the suspect Elifazi Tuhikayo, who has been in charge keeping exhibits. Tukamuhebwa says that has been receiving complaints from various boda boda motorists implicating Tuhikayo for conniving with mechanics to steal parts from motor bikes impounded by police.

On Tuesday, Pius Biryabareema a boda boda motorist caught a mechanic red handed with his carburetor. He says that when they interrogated, the mechanic he identifies as Amosi Kadeebe, he told them that he was given the carburetor by Tuhikayo. He told the cyclists that Tuhikayo asked him to remove the carburetor from a motorcycle that was parked inside the police yard.

As a result, hundreds of boda boda motorists led by Biryabareema stormed Mbarara police station demanding for their impounded motor bikes. But to their surprise they found none of their motorcycles at the police station. As a result, Tukamuhebwa ordered immediate investigations of Tuhikayo to ascertain the truth of the matter.

A cop at Mbarara police station who spoke to URN on condition of anonymity explains that this is not the first time Tuhikayo is implicated for selling spare parts of impounded motorcycles.
