There was tight police deployment at several churches in Kabale municipality this morning as Christians celebrated Christmas.

URN saw several officers from the Police Counter Terrorism Unit strategically deployed at Al Saints Church Archdeaconry, Christ the King Catholic Parish, St. Peters Cathedral Rugarama and Rushoroza Cathedral.

The officers kept a critical eye on the Christians who were entering the various places of worship.

Ely Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, says the heavy police deployment was meant to avert any possible attacks on Christians attending the Christmas service.

According to Maate, Church leaders were briefed before the deployment was made. Ronald Hakizimana, a Christian who talked to our reporter at Christ the King Catholic Parish, welcomed the police presence.

He said the deployment of the officers had helped them to go on with their prayers without any fear about their safety.
