The Chief magistrate’s court in Kabale has today sentenced two former employees of (COWE) Caring for orphans, widows and the elderly to a four years jail term.
The suspects have also been ordered to pay 450 million shillings.
Prosecution led by Brain Kalinaki, told court that Nickson Balikowa, a former National secretary general for the organization and Sedi Kesiime the former Kigezi region Coordinator, defrauded locals of money worth 450 million shillings.
They allegedly committed the offence between 2006 and 2007.
In his ruling, Charles Serubuga, the chief magistrate, said� people who use their offices to steal from the poor should not be left free in the community. He sentenced the two to Ndorwa government prison where they will serve four years.
In 2006, more than 3200 Residents of Kabale district lost their Money to a self proclaimed non government organization which used to double the money they saved with the organization.
Anteli Twahirwa one of the locals that sued COWE was happy that justice was finally delivered.
