The medal recipients are among the 561 people who have been awarded medals at the 54th Independence anniversary celebrations presided over by President Yoweri Museveni in Luuka district.
The celebrations are under the theme "Protection of Our Independence through Promotion of Patriotism, Unity and Hard work".
Some of the names on the list include Cranes include Captain Jimmy Kirunda, Eddy Semwanga, goalkeeper Paul Ssali, Tom Lwanga, Sam Musenze (deceased), Abby Nasur, Mike Kiganda (deceased), Moses Nsereko (deceased), Godfrey Kisitu (deceased), Philip Omondi (deceased), and Barnabas Mwesigwa among others.
The team officials were also among the medal recipients as General Elly Tumwine, the National Chairperson of the Heroes Award Committee mentions.

Uganda Cranes recently broke the 38 Africa Cup of nations (Afcon) jinx by qualifying for the 2017 Edition to take place in Gabon. The Cranes beat Comoros 1-0 in a Group D game played at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole to book a place.
Electoral Commission officials, past and present, are among the 561 people awarded medals today.
