Uganda Cranes team will depart on Friday for the return leg of the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier away to Sudan.

Decolas Kiiza, the Uganda FA head of Finance told URN on Monday night that the team will leave on an Ethiopian Airlines flight ahead of the match on Sunday. "We don't want the team to arrive in Khartoum so early in the hot conditions," added Kiiza.

The Cranes already carry an advantage after beating Sudan 2-0 last Saturday in the first leg played at the Nakivubo Stadium in Kampala. Frank Kalanda and Farouk Miya scored the vital goals for the Cranes. Under the watchful eyes of head coach Milutin ‘Micho' Sredojevic, the team resumed training on Monday.

Sredojevic said although they carry the advantage, the team will not take anything for granted. "We need to take the return leg even more seriously because we shall be playing away from home," he added.

In a related development the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has promised national team players bonuses of UGX3,650,000 (US$1000) to each of the team members if they qualify for the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

Hussein Ahmed, the Uganda FA spokesman told URN that the money will be given to the contingent including the technical bench. "The Federation President Moses Magogo has promised that this bonus of qualification will be given if the team can over come Sudan," added Ahmed.

The CHAN tournament is played among players featuring in local leagues around the African continent. Uganda qualified for the 2011 CHAN event held in Sudan and last year in Cape Town, South Africa.
