Rukiga Accident Death Toll Rises to 5

The death toll from the fatal accident that occurred along the Kabale-Mbarara highway on Thursday morning has reached five.

The accident occurred at around 7; 20 am when a Kabale-bound Toyota Raum vehicle registration number UAU 460W collided with a commuter Taxi registration number UBA 274U.

Three people died instantly and over fifteen others were injured and rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital. Those who died on the spot were identified as Jolly Tibahwerwayo, her daughter Arien Itungo,  and Edison Barinabo, a resident of Kanyeganyegye cell, in Kamwezi Sub County, Rukiga district.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate says that two more children died this morning from injuries sustained in the accident. They are Asaba Clinton, 3, and a two-months-old identified as Ariana Nyana.

The injured have been identified as; Edgar Akampa and his wife, Eron Ayebazibwe, Agnes Koburunga,15 and Macklin Atuhaire,26. All these were occupying the Raum car.

Other causalities who were in a taxi include; Ronald Gumoshabe, the taxi driver, Wilberforce Binamatsiko,39, Agrey Monday, 28, Nathan Kanyesiga, 26, Nazir Bahati, 48, John Kamugisha, 44 and another adult man whose particulars are not yet known.
