A top Deocratic Party (DP) in Mbarara district has been killed.

Apollo Kalibita, 54, the DP chairperson for Rwampara County was strangled by unknown people and his body dumped in his farm in Mwizi sub County, Rwampara County.
The incident happened on Wednesday, December 28.

Jaffer Magyezi, the Mbarara district police commander, says that the police is working closely with the family and the party leaders to ensure that the assailants are apprehended.
Magyezi reveals that the deceased went missing on the December 27 and the matter was reported at Mwizi police post.

The following day police mounted a search for his whereabouts. Locals and the police found his lifeless body at his farm late in the night. The body is now at Mbarara regional referral hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

Imam Makumbi, the DP chairperson for western Uganda told URN that the party has learnt with shock the death of their chairperson. Makumbi says that the deceased was one of their leading mobilisers in the western region and had on several occasion sacrificed his resources for the good of the party.

Makumbi says that the top party leadership has been informed and that burial preparations are underway.

Jude Kusasira, a nephew to the deceased says the suspects must have been after his life since they did not demand for anything from the home or take away an unspecified amount of money that was in his pocket.
