Reverend Father Joseph Kalinaki, the Jinja Catholic Diocese priest who was on Saturday arrested for allegedly defiling a 17-year-old girl, has been released on police bond.

Fr Kalinaki, the finance secretary and Episcopal vicar of Jinja Diocese, was found with the senior five student at Paradise Hotel in Jinja. The girl hails from Namwendwa in Kamuli district.

The Jinja police CID officer Ivan Bruno Kimalyo confirmed the priest’s release. Kimalyo said police commenced with investigations but a disagreement emerged between the girl, her father and mother.

Where as the mother says that she had approached the priest to help her daughter with school fees, the girl’s father says it’s not true.

He says the suspect was released on Monday after getting statements from the parties involved. Kimalyo added that police decided to grant the suspect bail as investigations continue.

Fr Kalinaki contends that he did not have an affair with the under age girl but he had only taken the girl to the hotel for refreshments shortly after discussing with her school matters.
