Nabukenya beat National Resistance Movement candidate Rebecca Balwana Nalwanga and independents Faridah Namubiru and Ramulah Kadaala in the Luweero Woman MP By-election held last month.
The Democratic Party candidate garnered 38,586 votes while her closest rival Rebecca Nalwanga got 22,236 votes. The other independent candidates Ramulah Kadaala got 768 votes while Faridah Namubiru managed only 717 votes.
Nabukenya had won the same seat in November 2011 by-elections but Court nullified her victory in March 2014 on grounds that there was rigging and ordered for fresh elections.
In Parliament today, Nabukenya was accompanied by Opposition legislators including Bukoto South MP Florence Namayanja, Rowland Mugume of Rukungiri Municipality and Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze.
After taking the oath, Nabukenya was welcomed back into the House by the Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

Oulanyah noted that Nabukenya is the only member who has had the luck to be sworn in twice in one term.
He reminded her of the Rules of Procedure of Parliament and the roles of Parliament. Oulanyah presented the Rules of Procedures of Parliament and the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda to guide her in her day-to-day operations.

Leader of Opposition Wafula Oguttu welcomed Nabukenya noting that she deserved to be in Parliament. Oguttu said the Luweero MP went through a lot during the by-election campaigns. He cited what he called demeaning statements and being harassed. He described Nabukenya as one of the Opposition’s energetic and resourceful members in the House.
Wafula appealed to the NRM side to accept defeat in Luweero instead of going to court again.
