EC Releases Programme for New Districts Elections

The districts include; Bunyangabu, Kyotera, Namisindwa, Pakwach and Rukiga. According to the programme, the elections to be conducted include District Women Representatives to Parliament, District Chairpersons and Local Government Councillors.
 
Activities in preparation for elections kicks off tomorrow, Friday with update of registers and will end on August 29th when elections will be held.
 
"The programme will commence with an update of the National Voters Register from Friday 4th to Monday 7th August, 2017, at update stations in each parish in the above districts," Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi says. 

The Commission warns that registration and transfer of voters from one polling station to another within the above districts will not be conducted after the said dates.
 
According to the programme, the nomination of candidates will be conducted on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th August 2017 at the district headquarters. Campaigns will be held from Monday 14th August until 27th August 2017 and polling will take place on Tuesday 29th August 2017.
 
Iganga and Kaabong District MPs
 
The Commission has also released election programmes for Iganga and Kaabong district women MPs. The vacancy of the Member of Parliament for Kaabong District fell vacant when the Court of Appeal nullified the election of Tubo Christine Nakwang while Iganga District Woman MP Kaudha Grace Hailat died last month.
 
In Kaabong, update of the register will start on Friday 4th and end on Monday 7th August, 2017. The display of voters register will be conducted from Monday 14th to Friday 18th August at all the polling stations in Kaabong.
 
"The nomination of candidates for the respective elective positions will be conducted on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th August 2017 at Kaabong District Headquarters. Campaigns will be held from Thursday 10th August to Friday 25th August 2017 and polling will take place on Monday 28th August 2017," Justice Byabakama says.
 
For Iganga, update of voters register will take place from Monday 7th August, 2017 to Friday 11th August 2017, at update stations in each parish in Iganga District.
 
The display of Voters Register will be conducted from Monday 21st August to Wednesday 30th August at all the polling stations in Iganga.
 
The nomination of candidates will be conducted on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th August at Iganga District Headquarters. Campaigns will be held from Monday 21st August to 12th September, and polling will take place on Thursday 14th September.
