Egypt Reaps Nine Golds in African Region Boxing Championship

Egypt on Saturday grabbed nine gold medals in Africa's fifth region boxing championship, the Egyptian MENA news agency has reported. During the region championship held in Cairo from April 11-14, Egypt won nine golds in flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, light welterweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, heavyweight and super heavyweight, taking two bronze medals in light flyweight and lightweight classes. Uganda won a gold medal, nine silvers and two bronzes, while Ethiopia grabbed a gold medal, two silvers and four bronzes and Sudan won silver and a bronze. Boxers who won gold and silver from regional tournaments would qualify for the African Boxing Championship slated for May 15-22 in Madagascar, according to sports officials.
