Ekiring Moves To 92nd In World Ranking

Edwin Ekiring has today improved by one place in the latest world rankings reelased by the Badminton World Federation BWF.

Uganda's Edwin Ekiring has today improved by one place in the latest world rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).


Ekiring who recaptured Africa's top spot last week moved to 92 in the rankings with 20150 points. All Africa Games gold medalist Jacob Maliekal (South Africa) is in 93rd place with 20122 points.


William Kabindi, one of the Ugandan coaches told URN on Thursday that it will be good for Ekiring to be consistent in the tournaments he will enter before May if he is to have a good chance of qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.


The Netherlands based player will be eager to put up a good show when the Swiss Open takes place in Basel, March 15-20 before heading for the Yonnex Polish Open in Warsaw March 23-26.


In the men's world rankings China's Chen Long maintained top position, while Carolina Marin (Spain) in top of the women's ranking. Kate Foo Kune (Mauritius)  who lost in the finals of the Uganda International Open Championship last month is top in Africa in the women's category and 69th in the world.
